SHOTGUN BAPTISM
2016-Present
Shotgun Baptism embodies the negation of bodily autonomy. The dense watery ‘vortex’ in which the subjects are submerged depict various stages of entrapment. Like a psychological undercurrent, stereotypes attempt to dislocate. The title of this body of work is a combination of terms that imply a coercive ceremonial induction to rigid religious and patriarchal standards.
A casting call was posted for persons identifying as female that defy cultural norms, non-binary, LGBTQIA+ and persons with disabilities or other-abled. These collaborative portraits are the result of both the artist giving prompts and photographing the ‘actor’s performances’ involving personal associations to the existing power structure.
Archival pigment prints are sold individually, or as part of various installation pieces.
